I bought some lorikeets at a bird auction and didn't find out until i got home that they DO NOT eat seeds like other birds. So i went to my local pet store to see what lorries eat. It was so expensive for the bags of food, that when you read the ingredients list all it had was weet-bix, rice flour, sweet biscuits as the main stuff and some extras. So i did some research on line and came up with this recipe which my lorries have been eating for months now and they love it.

1 box 750g weet-bix
3 pkt arrowrrot biscuits
1 kg raw sugar
1 pkt glucodin
1 kg rice :SEE NOTE:
1 kg polenta
1 kg bread crumbs
Put the weet-bix, arrowroot biscuits, raw sugar thru a food processor in small batches and process until fine. empty out each batch into a large bucket or bowl and mix well with the rest of the ingredients then store in a large air tight container or bucket.
NOTE: All commercial mixes of lorikeet food contain rice flour - which is just rice processed to a powder and the rice flour costs about 5 times more than a bag of rice, which you can process yourself. i process the rice with a drink blender in 1 cup batches because it has more blades and processes it nice and fine.
NOW your dry mix is ready, get a large jar or a small bucket with lid and put about 1/4 of the volume with water and top with your dry mix and mix/stir until combined and runny. add some fruit juice - about 1/4 of the overall volume of liquid and keep adding dry mix to fill your container to a runny consistency .
YOU CAN STORE THIS IN THE FRIDGE AND FEED THEM DAILY WITH THIS WET MIX.
i make about enough to last one week in one go.
i also buy some blossom nectar/liquid nectar from the pet store and put 100mls in my 1 litre jar of home made wet mix
dont forget to put wild native flowers like bottle brush eucalyptus and lots of fruit especially apples
Lorries are very messy eaters. my solution -
In my aviary i have a shelf which has an empty 4 litre ice cream container with
a small container inside with the wet mix in it and also a heavy rock which stops the container from tipping. the purpose of the larger container is to contain all the mess - and it made a massive difference
